I knew it would eventually come," said Anthony of being deployed with his diminutive 19-year-old daughter, who enlisted in the Guard in February 2007. “I support her 100 percent," he said. Anthony, a truck driver for Ohio Structures, has two previous deployments, one to Croatia and the other to the Middle East. GSSBA back in action today
The Guyana Secondary Schools Basketball Associa-tion (GSSBA) season resumes today with most of the teams having just two to three games to complete their regular season play before "March Madness". Since the GSSBA has adopted a schedule similar to the National College Athletes Association (NCAA), in the United States of America, teams will be seeded from their record (wins and losses) after the season and the teams will battle to decide the champion school of the country in a playoff format with all of games happening in March hence the name "March Madness". Vice president of the GSSBA and former national player, Karem Abrams, told Stabroek Sport that her association had many progressive programmes planned for 2008 which included co-curriculum activities such as debates and extra classes/ tutorial for players who needed help academically.

The financial-aid determination process is pretty much a black box. You put your data in, whether on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form handled by the U.S. Education Department or the College Scholarship Service (CSS) form processed by the College Board, send along last year's tax forms and out the other end come scholarship and loan packages from the colleges that have accepted your child. How those numbers are determined is up to each school's own financial-aid office. But there's a surprising degree of sameness in the way these offices operate and in the lack of explanation they provide to parents. And it's no wonder they look so similar: They are all using the same playbook. The College Board, a membership organization of most colleges and universities in the country, claims it doesn't tell schools how to evaluate financial need.

Schwarzenegger Visits Oakland, Brings Foreclosure Help
OAKLAND, Calif. -- California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger Friday came to Oakland, which has the 10th-highest foreclosure rate in the nation, to announce a new fund aimed at helping local homeowners who are facing foreclosure to keep their homes. OneCalifornia Foundation founders Kat Taylor and Tom Steyer contributed the initial donation of $1 million to a bridge loan fund that will be administered by the foundation in Oakland. The bridge loan will assist homeowners who don't qualify for other assistance, such as Schwarzenegger's agreement with loan servicers announced last month, or President George W. Bush's nationwide agreement with subprime lenders announced Thursday. .
